THE OLD HAS GONE, THE NEW HAS COME!
Happy New Year! 2010 is here, it is a new year, new hopes, new dreams, new resolutions, right? …”the old has gone, the new has come!” Every year around this time we tend to evaluate our lives, look at ourselves and vow to change certain things. I am going to lose 10 pounds, I am going to stop cursing, I am not going to smoke pot ‘as much’, I am going to try harder in school, I am going to do my homework every night, I am going to spend more time with my family, and on and on and on… What did you vow to change in 2010?
“…The old has gone, the new has come!” This is part of a longer passage which gives me hope every time I read it. It is a passage that is really meaningful, especially this time of year as we talk about changing, about bettering ourselves. Let’s take a look…
2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new
has come!” Sounds great huh…but what does it mean? The Message states it this way,
“anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life
is gone; a new life burgeons! To be united with Christ…to become one. To rely
on Christ for strength in time of weakness, peace in times of struggle, joy in times
of sorrow, love in times of hate. Unite with Christ to allow Christ to live with-
